2019 NISSMUN CONFERENCE
“If you ever think you’re too small to be effective, you’ve never been in bed with a mosquito!” — Wendy Lesko. Preston International School Delegates join other secondary schools in Nigeria to participate in the 15th Nigerian International Secondary Model United Nations (NISSMUN) Conference, which was themed “HARNESSING THE ENERGY AND CREATIVITY OF YOUTH IN PEACE BUILDING, TOLERANCE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION”.
The Model United Nations is an experimental education programme where students assume the role of representatives of UN Member states and delegates, debate, consult and investigate international issues and where necessary – come up with constructive resolution options. Delegates enjoyed arrays of activities such as special youth inter-religious assembly, general assembly, committee sessions, intergenerational dialogue on peace, tolerance and conflict resolution, happy hours, visit to embassies (Switzerland, Denmark, Canada, Ghana) world cultural night, elections of Officials and Gala/Awards Night.
This kind of exposure positions our students in a global world, redefining their mindset to that of a solution provider and setting them up on a transformational pedestal to become trail blazers in our ever changing world.
Our own Ekainyang Kemfon was awarded third best committee delegate of European Union, while a couple of other distinctive students were appointed as conference officials for NISSMUN 2020 Conference. At the end of the event, Preston International School emerge second overall best out of 56 prestigious International Secondary Schools that attended the conference within the federation.
Indeed, we are able!
